From Olivia Tapiero’s Un carré de poussière came the desire to inquire into the perspective of the world from the point of view of dust, rubbish, waste, trash, garbage and accumulation. We studied the decomposition of our own body-matter. Discharging, flattening out, abandoning shape. How to give your trust entirely to someone else? How to offload responsibility? How to accept being manipulated? What does handling entail? We became both garbage pile and the humans taking care of it, walking on it, compacting it, packaging it, transporting it. Our piece is about the ground we walk on, which we can see as a heap of our heritage, the humus of our ancestors, the soil of our ghosts. Our piece is about weight, about the gravity that insists on our movements and reminds us of the ground, reminds us of a certain humility. Our piece asks us about dress, usage and the appropriate response. Our piece teaches us a relaxed seriousness, a soft and viscous elegance, the serious and the sensitive, rigour without rigidity. Our piece asks us to make nests out of twigs, to build shelters out of debris, to arrange the pieces with patience and delicacy. Our piece asks us to take the time to let ourselves be affected by the other, to let ourselves be moved, violently and tenderly.
