R|EXISTÊNCIA picks up on the experience of Existência, premiered in 2002 at Paris’ Centre Pompidou. In it, performers were put in front of an audience without any kind of score while refusing the premise that it was an improvisation: it was a Real-Time Composition, a tool developed by Fiadeiro ever since.
The R that precedes the word existence of the R|EXISTÊNCIA project allows one to look at the experience of existence, the experience of weaving affections and relationships, of crossings and collisions that we create daily with the world (exterior and interior) in the light of concepts such as Resistance, Repetition or Repair. It also summons the image of existence as Reexistence, Reencounter and Real.
All these forces coincide in these presentations that we are now making of the R|EXISTÊNCIA project at TBA, a variation (an escape) of the EXISTÊNCIA project, a performance-research created in 2002 (premiered at the Pompidou Center in Paris and at the Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon) by João Fiadeiro, with the complicity of artists such as Cláudia Dias, Rui Catalão, Gustavo Sumpta, Tiago Guedes, Ana Borralho, David Miguel, Mário Afonso, Rita Raposo, Cláudio da Silva, Márcia Tecla, among others.
The concept of “variation” or “fugue”, so dear to our study of Composition in Real Time, is taken even further here because each of the presentations will be, in itself, a “variation of variation” (or a “fugue” of “variation”), allowing viewers the opportunity to access different angles and perspectives of our study.
This is the way we found to say that we are multiple and that the real, to be minimally assimilated, has to be experienced from different perspectives, modes and sensibilities.
‘How to not-know together?’ The dispositive C of R|EXISTÊNCIA has a configuration close to the experience of visiting the studio (the visit to the study), placing the spectators in the position of voyeur of a practice that studies the practice that studies the practice that studies… It is a variation guided by João Fiadeiro and in collaboration with performers Chloé Saffores, Francisco Thiago, Herlandson Duarte, Katarina Lanier, Leonardo Shamah, Nirvan Navrin and Piero Ramella. It also features sound composition by Adriana Sá, with whom Fiadeiro collaborates for the first time.
